Share Portfolio Guidance
Independent research and professional judgement for investors who own or are considering direct shares. ClearGauge can review an existing portfolio, investigate a specific opportunity or provide an independent second opinion while you retain control of the decision.
If you need a wider review of investments, retirement, tax and estate-planning considerations, the Financial Clarity Review may be the better starting point.
A once-off review, with a clear next step
Share Portfolio Guidance may be provided as a once-off review of an existing direct-share portfolio or as part of an ongoing advisory relationship. Before any work begins, fees are agreed in advance and reflect the scope, complexity and value of the engagement. There is no obligation to appoint ClearGauge Wealth for ongoing advice. If a Share Portfolio Guidance engagement is followed by an Ongoing Advice appointment, the once-off review fee may be credited against first-year advisory fees, subject to the scope and terms of the agreed engagement.
One Decision Can Change Everything
Long-term wealth is rarely determined by one exceptional investment.
More often, it is shaped by a handful of important decisions.
The decision to invest in a business that was never properly understood.
The decision to sell an outstanding company too early.
The decision to chase market excitement rather than evidence.
The decision to ignore new information because it challenges an existing belief.
These decisions rarely feel significant in the moment.
Over time, they shape long-term wealth.
So do thoughtful decisions.
That is where ClearGauge Wealth seeks to create value.
When Information Becomes Noise
Private investors have access to more information than ever before.
Company reports.
Financial news.
Podcasts.
Analyst commentary.
Artificial intelligence.
Investment videos.
The challenge is no longer obtaining information.
It is determining what deserves attention, what deserves scepticism and what deserves further investigation.
Information is valuable.
Understanding is invaluable.
Our role is to help clients distinguish one from the other.
Before Capital Is Committed
Every significant investment begins with uncertainty.
The question is not whether uncertainty exists.
The question is whether enough work has been done to understand it.
Before capital is committed, every important investment decision is investigated with the same discipline that professional investment organisations apply to their own investment process.
Our objective is not certainty.
It is understanding.
Every recommendation should be capable of being defended by evidence, even when the future remains uncertain.
Professional Investigation
Every assignment begins with a question.
Never with a conclusion.
We seek to understand the business before valuing it.
We gather evidence before forming opinions.
We actively search for information that challenges our thinking rather than confirms it.
We question assumptions before accepting them.
Only then do we ask the question that matters most:
Given the evidence currently available, what is the most rational decision?
How We Investigate
Every investment is investigated through a consistent framework.
We seek to understand the business and how it creates value.
We evaluate its financial strength, management’s capital allocation, valuation, principal risks and its role within the client’s overall portfolio.
Only after these questions have been answered do we form a recommendation.
Research That Goes Beyond Headlines
Professional investigation requires more than reading an annual report or following financial news.
Our work combines comprehensive professional research resources with company disclosures, financial information, industry research, economic analysis and other independent sources to develop an informed view of every investment we evaluate.
Modern analytical tools, including artificial intelligence where appropriate, help us organise information, compare competing viewpoints and challenge our own assumptions.
Technology broadens our investigation.
Independent judgement determines our conclusions.
When Clients Ask Us To Investigate
Investment opportunities appear everywhere.
A television interview.
A newspaper article.
A podcast.
A conversation with a friend.
A recommendation from another adviser.
Our response is never immediate enthusiasm.
Nor immediate dismissal.
It is investigation.
The objective is not to confirm an opinion. It is to test it.
Every investigation begins with the same questions.
- What business are we actually being asked to own?
- Why does the market value it as it does?
- What assumptions are reflected in today’s share price?
- What evidence supports those assumptions?
- What evidence challenges them?
- How would this investment affect the existing portfolio?
- Does the potential reward justify the risks involved?
The objective is not to produce another report.
It is to improve the quality of an important decision.
Continuous Investment Investigation
An investment decision is rarely complete the day a share is purchased.
Businesses evolve.
Management teams make new capital allocation decisions.
Industries become more or less competitive.
Economic conditions change.
Valuations move.
New evidence emerges continuously.
The question is not whether change will occur.
The question is whether that change alters the original investment case.
Our role is to investigate new information as it becomes available and determine whether the evidence strengthens, weakens or fundamentally changes the rationale for owning the business.
Sometimes the correct response is to act.
Often the correct response is to remain patient.
Both decisions require discipline.
Investment decisions should never be placed on autopilot.
Neither should they be driven by headlines or short-term market movements.
They should be guided by evidence, thoughtful investigation and independent judgement.
Professional investigation is not an event. It is an ongoing discipline.
It continues for as long as the investment remains in the portfolio.
Independent Thinking
Independent thinking requires independent incentives.
ClearGauge Wealth is compensated exclusively by its clients.
We receive no commissions for recommending products.
No incentives from investment managers.
No remuneration linked to transaction activity.
Our recommendations are guided by evidence, not commercial interests.
Changing our opinion when the evidence changes is not inconsistency.
It is intellectual honesty.
Who This Service Is Designed For
This service is designed for investors who believe that significant wealth deserves disciplined thought.
People who value independent judgement over market commentary.
People who would rather investigate an important decision than regret it later.
People who understand that preserving wealth is often more important than chasing exceptional returns.
Fees
Share Portfolio Guidance can be provided as a once-off portfolio review or as part of an ongoing advisory relationship.
Fees are agreed in advance and reflect the scope, complexity and value of the engagement.
Clients who appoint ClearGauge Wealth on an ongoing basis pay a transparent annual advisory fee, payable in equal monthly instalments.
Where a once-off portfolio review is undertaken before an ongoing appointment, the review fee may be credited against the first year’s advisory fees where appropriate.
This reflects our belief that the research and analysis completed during the review form the foundation of a long-term advisory relationship, reducing the need to duplicate much of the initial work.
There is no obligation to appoint ClearGauge Wealth on an ongoing basis, and our conclusions remain independent regardless of your decision.
Better Decisions Compound
The most valuable work rarely happens when an investment is bought or sold.
It happens beforehand.
While assumptions are questioned.
While evidence is gathered.
While competing viewpoints are considered.
While emotion gives way to disciplined thinking.
Better decisions are rarely accidental.
They are the product of disciplined investigation.
One Simple Principle
Better decisions compound.
So does thoughtful judgement.
